Youth 360 – Making it happen through Marketing…

What is Youth 360???
Hmmmm…. Well this is what we say when we go marketing…
Youth 360 is an organization started by students of PU and other colleges in Chandigarh, We have a monthly publication – Youth 360 Define yourself which goes to all departments of PU, other colleges in Chandigarh like DAV, GCG, CCET, MCM etc. We have approximately 8000 members, who all subscribe to our magazine.
We are also into Event organizing and Community services. Some of the events that we have successfully organized are Girls Day Out, Goonj DJ night, Cyanide Road Show, On-Air Treasure Hunt, Global Warming Awareness Campaign, Candle Vigil, Relive the mADgic.

Truth be told all the above mentioned things are bullshit compared to what we really do… Its not that we don’t do all these things, we do it, but not all the time. Instead we spend majority of our time into getting the funds for the magazine.
You could say marketing (read fund-raising) is the MAJOR thing that Youth 360 does. We don’t lose sleep over preparation of the issue or event organizing; all that stuff is easily done. Getting the funds is the real pain…

”We are really interested in what you are doing, but I will have to forward your proposal to my head, who will respond to this.”… Sigh.. It seem everyone has a head, most of whom are dickheads, except our present sponsors of course ;-).

One thing I have learnt in marketing is that 90-95% of the sponsors will say no either they would say no directly or would ask to come again in the next month or maybe next week or even “I have forwarded it to my head (read dickhead), I will call you as soon as he replies. (which means never)”.

Another thing we have learnt is to keep the interested sponsor hooked on, i.e. if a sponsor finds the ad-rates too expensive, then lure him into the idea of an event, then again give him an economy ad package… just keep Youth 360 in his head. The thing is, if he thinks about Youth 360 long enough, he will become our sponsor in one form or the other.

Most people do not have their own brains but rely on the stupidity of their competitors. This is a fact which has been experimentally verified by the Y360 marketing team. Most sponsors wouldn’t give an ad in a 8000-circulation mag, but they still are doing it with us… Why? Because, one of their competitors gave an ad in our mag.
We have been toying with the idea of putting in a fake ad, just to get a few more sponsors, you know.

Sare hi chor hai…” Having been gone for marketing, I have realized that all the institutes are petty thieves. Very few of them are genuine teachers; most of them are scoundrels preying on innocent students’ ignorance. I really really wanted to do a PHP course from some institute, but I m wiser now and will probably learn it from some online tutorial or something.

To be continued…
